Research Description:
Fundamentals of colloid and interface science and their relations to papermaking chemistry.
Examples are: hydrodynamic and colloidal interactions in dispersions and emulsions, optical properties of suspensions, adsorption of polymers and polyelectrolytes on colloidal particles and pulp fibres, particle deposition and removal from solid surfaces, fines and filler retention in papermaking, wetting of solids by liquids, and stability of foams. Of special interest are nanotubes made of alternating copolymers and nanorods made from such nanotubes. Further interests are in biological systems with applications to biotechnology. Examples are cell adhesion and coagulation, liposome suspensions and the flow of blood. Presently we are involved in setting up a research network on Bioactive Paper, in which paper-pathogen interactions will be studied.
